August to September
Shirley
It is quite a bizarre movie, but I liked it. The casting and acting were top-notch. It was not made for mainstream audiences but for a niche audience, and I am part of that niche. The pacing was slow, which was perfect for this movie. There was a general sense of eerieness which I quite liked. It was a weird movie, but it was my kind of weird.
Nymphomaniac
This is among the most pointless movie that I have ever seen. It was five hours of nothing. You would think a film that clocks in 300 minutes would have some semblance of a point, but it doesn't. The ending is the worst part. It leaves you feeling confused and burnt out. You ask yourself, did I really waste 5 hours of my life on this pointless movie? It has hardcore scenes, which were hard to watch. It makes you feel highly disgusted during some gruesome scenes. This is the grossest and most disgusting movie I have ever watched. Just before I think it couldn't get grosser, it does.
Can Your Ever Forgive Me?
This is a movie about a terrible person who committed literary heresy. She wrote literary works in the name of popular writers. What she did was disgusting and despicable. I don't know why you would do such a thing if you are a writer yourself. Plagarising is comparable to ball tampering in Cricket. In fact, It is far worse than that. The actress who played her is a dislikeable person herself. So, She made the character even more hateable. I don't know why did they make this movie.
Deep Water
Watching this movie is like going on an emotional rollercoaster. This movie will make you feel various emotions with high intensity. This movie is hard to watch, to be honest. It is not a feel-good love story but the opposite of feel-good. Feel-good movies show the best tendencies of a relationship, but this movie shows the worst tendencies of a relationship. The relationship between the lead characters is super toxic but intoxicating at the same time. The film was seeing a car crash, you know you should not watch it, but you can't get enough of this trainwreck.
Unfaithful
This is a movie about love, but it is a romantic movie. It is a pretty decent movie. The premise of this movie is extremely relatable, which is infidelity. The ending may or may not reflect real life, but the film was outstanding. It shows that the cheating spouse is not a bad person. It humanizes cheating spouses.
The Tender Bar
This is a coming-of-age story, but it pivots more around a side character than the lead character. This movie is about how the lead character comes of age with the help of his uncle. The Casting is on point. Ben Affleck did a fantastic job here. Tye Sheridan also followed suit. It is a very upbeat, optimistic movie. It also shows if you got a family, poverty is not that bad. It is difficult, but it is significantly less difficult if you got a family. It is a movie about struggle but remains to be upbeat.
Anti Christ
This is an art film, but I couldn't see the art in this movie. I only saw pure unadulterated garbage. The violence in this movie is too brutal. It serves no purpose other than shock value. The story writing was dull was too dark. Also, it was like violence porn. Like the primary goal of adult movies is to show sex, the primary objective of this movie is to show violence. The story was paper thin. They were not even trying to write.
Mud
This was an odd movie. The film primarily focuses on the relationship between Ty Sheridan's character and Matthew McConaughey's character. But then Reese Witherspoon shows up for some reason and destroys this. The story is pretty unique, but the execution is pretty bad. The acting is pretty good across the board.
Jack Ryan Franchise
Patriot Games & Clear & Present Danger
Harrison Ford's Jack Ryan was the worst. The first two movies were the worst of the Jack Ryan Franchise. The story was cliche and very low effort. The movies were bland and forgettable.
The Hunt for Red October
Alec Benjamin's Jack Ryan was the best or, relatively least, worst of the whole franchise. Jack Ryan Franchise is the worst franchise in Hollywood. The people involved in making these movies should be ashamed of themselves.
The Sum of All Fears
Ben Affleck was good enough. Definitely better than Harrison Ford. The story was unimaginative, but it was still an okay movie. It was just a regular spy action movie.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Chris Pine's Jack Ryan is an interesting case in this movie. It is cliched like other movies in the franchise, but it is executed magnificently. It was a decent movie. Even though it has the most cliched plot, the Evil Russians will destroy America, and our hero has to save the day.
Spy
This movie is a stain on the resume of everyone involved in this absolute travesty. This movie is awfully bad, painfully funny, awkwardly acted, and a total disaster. I don't know who greenlit this awful script. The dialogue is so poor it is dying from starvation. Ironically, this is a high-budget movie, and it shows. The cinematography is top-notch. The lighting is excellent. The cinematography is the only good thing about this movie. The writing is so bad it's unbelievable. The 'comedy' scenes were so cringe I felt secondhand embarrassment for the actors who had to be involved in this trainwreck of a movie. What an absolute failure this movie is.
The Gray Man
This is easily one of the worst movies of the 21st century. The names associated with this movie are A-List Superstars but the movie 3rd class garbage. You couldn't make a worse movie if you wanted to. The absence of logic is mind-boggling. If this movie gives an IQ test, it will be declared a retard.
Melancholia
Truly One of the worst movies of all time. It is a terrible, terrible movie. Suppose my nightmares were movies, then it would be a summer blockbuster. The plot is awful, and the movie is an absolute disaster. In the movie, an asteroid was going to hit and destroy the earth. You would think that an asteroid hitting our planet and killing everyone would be a bad thing. But, it is only a bad thing for those who haven't seen this trainwreck. After watching this movie, you would want that an asteroid hits us and kills everyone. The species which create this kind of stuff shouldn't be allowed to exist.
World War Z
It is a Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror movie starring Brad Pitt. And that is where the good things about the movie stop. Other than Pitt, this movie is an absolute disaster. It starts with great promise, but it's all downhill from there. The lead actress and other side characters are a bunch of nobodies. The only decent scene in the movie was the Israel Wall scene. Other than that, it's trash from start to finish.
The Heat
This is a buddy cop movie. Buddy movies heavily depend on the chemistry between the lead actors. This component is present in this movie. Bullock and McCarthy have great chemistry together. McCarthy is the wild one, and Bullock is the straight-laced one. Just Like Lethal Weapon, the difference is. Lethal Weapon is the worst buddy cop movie ever. The awkward, weird, cringe, in-your-face comedy style of McCarthy works wonders here. Bullock gives an excellent performance as the rule-following, by-the-book, jumpy detective.
American Psycho
This is one of the best movies of all time. This movie contains so much subtext and deep symbolism that you must watch it multiple times to fully grasp its concepts. Dark Humor and symbolism are off the charts in this movie. The Casting is perfect. This movie gave us one of the greatest actors of our generation and of all time. The Acting is top-class. This movie satirizes the yuppie culture of the 80s. But, Now, it is even more relevant since that materialistic, empty, vapid culture has taken hold of the whole world. This is clear after seeing that American Psycho has become a mine of endless Patrick Bateman memes, and Patrick Bateman has become an icon of the Internet era. Now, Let's see Paul Allen's Review.
The Shining
This is one of the most acclaimed movies of all time. Jack Nicolson gave the performance of a lifetime, and why wouldn't you give an excellent performance if your director is Stanley Kubrick. The acting is top-notch in this movie. There are a lot of easter eggs and symbolism in this movie, and to this day, people are trying to parse it out. This movie has become one of the most talked about movies of the century. The movie is about Jack, the caretaker of a hotel with a violent and troubled past. The hotel closes in the winter season, and Jack is left alone with his family in the hotel. Slowly, he realizes that the hotel is not as empty as he previously thought. The spirits and the hotel messes up his brain, and he slowly goes insane and psychotic. In the end, He tries to murder his family with an axe. His family barely survives the attack, and he freezes to death.
Taxi Driver
This is one of the most popular movies of all time. This movie is a character study of Travis Bickle, a Vietnam vet who is lonely and isolated and suffers from alcoholism and insomnia. He has no friends and also is not close to his family. He is socially uncalibrated. The movie depicts his slow descent into insanity and madness. He slowly but surely loses grip on reality. This movie is about a lonely and isolated young man who descends into murder and mayhem.
Scouts Guide to Zombie Apocalypse
It is a zombie comedy movie. It seems like a bad combination, but it somehow works, with the help of good lead characters and funny comedy scenes. The run time is around 90 minutes which is perfect for this movie. This is a fun and enjoyable film. It starts slowly but picks up pace quickly and keeps up the speed till the end. The Lead Characters have good chemistry together, which makes this movie more enjoyable. The side characters are also well-written. The best part about this movie is its superb writing. The product design and wardrobe department also did a good job. Overall, it is a super fun and enjoyable movie.
Vampire Academy
It is a teen vampire movie, which was all the rage during its release time. This is one of the best teen movies that I've watched. The casting is excellent, and so is the acting. The writing is pretty neat. The Pacing is also brilliant. The pacing is among the best parts of the movie. This movie is very happening. Meaning it doesn't have filler scenes, and something is happening throughout its runtime, and I like this sort of movie. It picks up the pace from the first scene and keeps that pace through and through and also ramps it up when needed. It has many subplots unfolding simultaneously, and all loose ends are tied before the ending, which is a testament to the skill of the writers. This is also a mystery movie, and the plot twists are the best part of the movie. A good mystery movie must keep you guessing and doesn't give you any hint about the plot revelations, and this movie does exactly that.
Samaritan
This is a superhero mystery action movie Starring Sylvester Stallone. This is not your typical crime-fighting, well-off, and over-the-top superhero. This superhero is very low-key and lives alone, and fixes busted electric devices. But as a kid suspects him of being a superhero who is in hiding after a violent fight with another superhero. In the last score, there is a major plot twist which may or may not be seen coming from afar. This is not a typical superhero movie. It looks less upbeat and more seedy and dingy. But just because it is not another Marvelesque Generic movie, that doesn't mean it is any good. The movie fails completely. The writing is uncreative and formulaic, and the movie is disappointing.
The plot seems like Beauty & The Beast Teen Version, and it is precisely that. But, instead of being a cheap knockoff, it holds its own and improves in some aspects. It is one of the best romance movies of all time. It gives you a cinematic experience, unlike other generic romance movies. The writing is top-notch, and so is the pacing. This is a very happening and dense movie. It doesn't slow down. It keeps its speed till the end. The cinematography is also excellent. This is a very sincere movie. The ending is also great. It is a very sweet and heartwarming movie.
This is one of the best teen drama movies of all time. This movie is a testament that writing is everything. If you don't have a big budget and don't have big names in your movie but have a brilliant script, then you can make an excellent movie. The characters in this movie are very likeable and charming. Even the antagonist was likeable. If I had to describe this movie in one word, it would be, Charming. It is also a very dense movie and doesn't slow down at any time. The pacing is excellent. The drama aspect is the best part of the movie. All the actors gave an outstanding performance.
Dark City
This is a sci-fi action mystery movie. The mystery aspect is very engaging and intriguing and doesn't let you feel bored at any point in time during its runtime. The plot revelation at the end is very surprising. It is a Matrixesque movie, but it was released before The Matrix, and Matrix was possibly partially inspired by it. The Matrix was even shot at some of the sets of Dark City. The acting is excellent in the movie. The special effects hold up even today after all these years. It is like a low-budget Matrix Movie. You can call it Mini Matrix.
Storm Breaker
This is one of the worst movies of this century. This movie is terrible through and through, with no redeeming qualities. I can't think of a good thing to say about this movie. The acting was pretty bad. Some actors were overacting. It was embarrassing. It tries to be over-the-top and serious, but it just doesn't work. The Lead actor cannot act. He is the worst actor in this movie. It seemed like he was not even trying a little bit. The story was pretty bad. It was unimaginative and unoriginal. The special effects were pretty bad. This is a terrible movie through and through.
Nancy Drew
This is one of the worst sleuth movies ever made. The acting is awful. The writing is horrible. The lead actress is dislikable but not as much as her ogre sidekick. The cinematography is pretty bad too. The story is pretty terrible too. It was illogical and contrived. The pacing is also pretty bad. No wonder the lead actress's career never took off. She remained a nobody despite being an insider. Everything about this movie is awful, and this movie should never have been made. The sequel of the movie is far better than this unmitigated disaster.
