Beastly Review (Well, Kind of)

Beastly is a 2011 movie starring Vanessa Hudgens and Neil Patrick Harris. I don't remember the name of actor who played the protagonist. Beastly is a modern day adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast Story. 

Vanessa Hudgens is Belle in this Story and the actor who plays Kyle is the Beast. His name is Kyle Kingson, which is a subtle hint that he is the prince. It was smart, I have to admit. 

The Plot

In the opening scene, We see Kyle doing pushups and exercise while looking in the mirror and the background song is Look at me, which subtlety conveys that he is vain, which was again shown in the next scene where he gives a speech about how others people are ugly and hence suck. However, he is rich, handsome and popular.He is also rude to people in general. Like he insults her housemaid for no reason. But, she doesn't take it personally. However, it is hinted that he may have a spark of goodness buried inside boatload of vanity and bragging. He regularly puts down people which comes back to bite him in the ass, when a witch curses him after he publicly insults her. She turns him into a hideous looking person and unless someone says "I love you" to him within one year, he will be ugly for rest of his life. 

He moves in in a secluded house so that people can't see his ugly looking face. He lives there for months without going much outside but one days he goes to a party and sees his girlfriend and best friend going at it. He also overhears his girlfriend calling him a bad person and say that she becomes mean due to him. He feels downbeaten only to be cheered up by Lindy, who tells him that she kind of thinks that Kyle is a good person or atleast is a okay person. Kyle sort of liked her before but now he is smitten. He follows her home and sees her from the window and stalks her while she goes to the store, normal stalker behavior or normal lover behavior according to romcoms. 

Then, we get another romcom trope where he saves her from goons. He then blackmails his dad into making Lindy live with him. When she comes to his house, he tries to buy his way to her heart which fails demonstrably. Then, he is advised by his maid to think about her and then give something thoughtful. Which he does and gives her a box of jujufruit. He also finds out that She liked Kyle. He continues his attempt to get close to her. He builds a greenhouse cause she like roses. Like in Beauty and the Beast, The beast build the library. It starts to work and they go on a walk and read poetry together. He then takes her to his lakehouse mansion on a romantic getaway, which is interrupted by the news of her Lindy's father being admitted in a hospital. She hops onto a train after Kyle gives him a letter where he confesses his love for her. After, finding out she calls him incessantly but he ignores her untill the day she is going to Machu Pichu. At the school, everyone sees his face but it's okay cause Lindy kisses and says I love you. He tells her to go to Machi Pichu. He then turns into his former self and then Lindy comes back and he tells her that he is Kyle. Then, they kiss and the movie ends with images of both Kyle and Lindy in Machu Pichu.
