The Birth & Death of Bourne

Image
Background   The Bond franchise stagnated in the early 2000s due to back to back box office failures of Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies. However, this created a market for spy movies. The fruit was ripe for the picking, and the Bourne franchise swept it away. Another movie that took this opportunity was XXX, starring Vin Diesel and Samuel L Jackson. Although it was a single movie, it still was a major success. XXX went for an action oriented, fast paced, over the top spy movie, while Bourne went for a tension-oriented slow burn grounded spy movie.  1. Success   Bourne Trilogy The first movie kickstarted the franchise with a bang which then made way for the next two movies of the franchise. The First movie was more of a slow burn grounded movie, while the other two had more action scenes and big set pieces shot by a "Shaky Camera Style" to make it look more realistic. The cinematography was exquisite throughout the whole franchise especially the choice of using a ...

Nancy Drew Pilot - A Masterpiece in the Making

Image
Nancy Drew is a CW 2019 Supernatural horror mystery drama series starring Kennedy McMann as Nancy Drew, Leah Lewis from The Half of It as Nancy's boss, George, Alex Saxon, and Madison Jaizani as Nancy's coworkers. The series is not an original concept. Actually, Nancy Drew is a popular fictional character appearing in several mystery book series, movies, video games, and a TV show as a teenage amateur sleuth. Nancy Drew was created as the female counterpart of the Hardy Boys. Nancy Drew reminds me of Sherlock Homes. A teenage girl version of Sherlock Homes, if you will.  Nancy Drew - 2007 Previously, there were two Nancy Drew movies made before this series. The first was an unmitigated disaster stopping any chance of a sequel until 2019, when Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase was released. Also, Nancy Drew, the tv show, was released interestingly enough. Emma Roberts played Nancy Drew in the movie. The movie had no redeeming quality. It was pure unad...

Howard from Big Bang Theory

Image
The Big Bang Theory is the den of pathetic losers. Most of the jokes come at the expense of the character's lack of masculinity, and no character is more pathetic than this loser, Howard Wolowitz. He is pathetic in a way that you don't even feel sorry for him.  Howard Wolowitz is an MIT alum engineer who lives with his mom until her wife forces him to move out. Howard is a coward. He can't stand up to her mom or his wife, for that matter. He is a spineless wimp. His father bailed on him while he was a kid. I wonder why. He has an overbearing mother. Because of that, he has mommy issues. He is super needy and desperate. He tries on every woman he sees. I cringe when he hits on women. He always comes off as creepy and overtly sexual. He is whipped, obviously. Her wife has the most whiniest vomit-inducing voice in the world. I would kill myself before I married that woman. But, he grovels even to her not to leave her—this showcases how pathetic he is. On the socio-...

Actresses I can't stand

5. Nicole Kidman   The fact that she not only broke into Hollywood but became one of the highest-paid actresses is absolutely baffling to me. I thought that showbiz was cut-throat, which meant that no unqualified candidate would get through, but she not only got through but also became a prominent name. I just don't get how she can be an actress with that horrible-looking face. She looks more like a witch than an actress. Angelina Jolie looked far better than her even when she played an actual witch in Maleficient.                              See for yourself Besides all that, She is still getting roles to this day despite being over 55 years old. Eve good-looking actresses don't get roles after 40. She is not only getting movie gigs but also modeling gigs. This just blows my mind. If someone told me she was an actual witch who used black magic to become an actress, I wou...

Pulp Fiction Pulp fiction is a crime drama movie starring Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis. It is directed by none other than Quentin Tarantino. This is one of the most popular movies of all time. This movie also established Tarantino as a prominent director.  The film also revived Travolta's career and basically brought it from the dead. The cinematography of this movie is very extremely good and distinctive. The color palette is unique and one of a kind. The characters of the movie are very colorful and dynamic, and they have the most interesting dialogue that you will see. I mean, a hitman literally quoted Bible before killing. The irony is off the chart.  The movie tells multiple stories interweaving with each other, tying up all the loose ends in the end.  Inglorious Basterds Inglorious Basterds is a war movie starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, and Christopher Waltz. It is set in Nazi Germany. This movie is a work of fi...

The Other Guys The Other Guys is a buddy cop action movie starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.  And this is one of the worst buddy cop movies ever made. This movie is supposed to be a satire, allegedly, but I don't get it. Maybe it's too subtle, or I am too incompetent to understand it. In either case, I didn't like it one bit. I like Mark Wahlberg, and I wanted to like this movie, but I didn't. I ended up hating it. It is unbelievably unfunny and dumb. The plot is clichéd and uninteresting. Supposedly, this movie was misunderstood, and people didn't get its clever satire or something.  First of all, I don't believe that. What I think really happened was that they made a lousy movie, and when people didn't like it, they tried to shield themselves from criticism by saying that the film was too clever for people. It's like you make a terrible and unfunny joke, and people don't laugh. You try to silence the detractors by saying that othe...
