January to March
Six Days Seven Nights
Six Days Seven Nights is an action-adventure movie starring Harrison Ford and Anne Heche. It was also marketed as a romance movie, Harrison Ford was too old to feature in romance movies at that time, and that is why this movie sucks. Anne Heche looked like his daughter. It was embarrassing to watch. The writing is terrible, and the movie is boring.
Don't Look Up
Don't look Up is an apocalyptic political satire starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Cate Blanchett. It lampoons the world leaders for not taking climate change seriously. It is also exaggerated and over-the-top so that people will understand the point. It mocks and makes fun of climate deniers.
My Spy
My Spy is an action comedy movie Starring David Batista and Chloe Coleman. It is a fun and light-hearted film. The Banter between Batista and Coleman is the highlight of the movie because the chemistry between the two leads is great. It is super fun and enjoyable movie.
The Nice Guys
The Nice Guys is a crime drama movie starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. It was a confusing movie. I couldn't understand the movie, but If I had understood it, I think I would have liked it. Gosling and Crowe seemed to have natural chemistry together.
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider is an action-adventure movie starring Alicia Vikander. It is boring as hell. Vikander gave a very wooden performance, and the terrible story didn't help either. Overall, this is a bland and boring movie.
The Wedding Planner
The Wedding Planner is a romantic comedy movie starring Matthew McConaughey and J.Lo. J.Lo and McConaughey had good chemistry together, but still the movie felt very dry. If this movie had more comedic scenes, then it would have been way better. It is too serious for a rom-com. Most of the movie felt monotonous and flat.
Prisoners
Prisoners is a drama thriller movie starring Jake Gyllenhall and Hugh Jackman. It is dark and gritty. It deals with some sensitive topics like child abduction, parents' grief, and religious cults. This movie grips you from the first scenes, and lets go only after its ending. There are no dull or tensionless scene in the movie; It was a thrilling and suspenseful movie through and through. I personally don't like Hugh Jackman one bit, but, he gave a showstopping performance in this movie. The twist at the end was one of the most shocking plot twists I have ever seen. You will not see it coming.
Jungle Cruise
Jungle Cruise is an action-adventure movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. This movie is boring as hell. There is no chemistry between the stars and the leads, and the movie is predictable and dull.
Laws of Attraction
Laws of Attraction is a romantic comedy movie starring Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore. This is yet another romcom churned out by the studios during the height of the rom-com era. These movies are the reason why the romcom genre died. And, This movie would have been far better if there were more comic scenes in it.
If a movie purely focuses on romance, then if the chemistry between leads is off, the whole movie fall flat on its face. Then, the only thing that can save it would be, writing, but romcoms are not known for their brilliant screenplay, as you may know. Romcoms are formulaic and full of tropes. That is why most romcoms suck.
If anyone would ask me why most romcoms are so bad? I would give them three primary reasons. Firstly, most romcoms' screenplay sucks. Secondly, most romcoms' lead actors don't have good chemistry. The best chemistry I have seen in a romcom is between Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson in How to lose a guy in 10 days. It was the ideal rom-com movie. Also, the movie was hilarious, with a pretty good script. Thirdly, most romcoms have very few comedic scenes, which is why they are forgettable and unremarkable.
The Protege
The Protege is an action movie starring Maggie Q, Samuel L Jackson, and Michael Keaton. This is one of the most formulaic action movies I've ever seen. Also, This movie is boring as hell. The writing is terrible, and the plot is unoriginal and stale.
Peppermint
Peppermint is a revenge action drama movie starring Jennifer Garner. This is a female-led action movie. And the problem with every female-led action movie, is it's just not believable. I don't buy it for one second. Cinema is as good as its ability to suspend disbelief. Meaning whether or not the audience buys what you are selling, meaning whether or not you are convinced by what they are showing you on the screen.
A 100-pound woman fighting ten guys, twice or thrice her size, is the antithesis of believable. In the movie, Garner goes on a rampage against people who killed her family. Mind you, Garner is in her late 40s, and this movie seriously wants me to believe that a middle-aged 100-pound woman single-handedly kills the members of a crime gang, a judge, and many other people while they couldn't fight back or get revenge on her. While police also fail to find and stop her. This is why female-led action movies will never be successful cause they are not believable even for a movie. I think Hollywood should stop trying to make these types of movies and stop wasting their money and our time.
A Quiet Place Series
A Quiet Place is a post-apocalyptic horror movie franchise starring John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy. The series is about the Abbott Family, which tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.
A Quiet Place
The first one is an okay movie. The premise is not groundbreaking or anything but rather a simple one. Strange Creatures are hunting down humans across wastelands. Also, all the actors gave a brilliant performances in this movie. It was only 90 Minutes long and didn't have many filler scenes, and also it doesn't waste your time and maintains a level of paranoia and terror throughout the movie. It doesn't have jump scares per se, but it ratchets up the tension quickly during the horror scenes. The horror scenes were well-shot and directed. The ending was emotional and impactful.
A Quick Place 2
Here we go again. Another bad sequel. The First movie became an instant hit due to its acting and screenplay. But the second is a dud. Like most sequels, it was not a very good movie. It didn't drop the ball altogether. But, they were retreading the same waters, only this time, but it was Cillian Murphy instead of John Krasinski. The direction and horror Scenes were done alright. But you would think haven't we done this already? It is just another cash grab born out of the desire to milk money from an excellent IP. It is sad cause it only tarnishes the IP and disappoints its audience, but they will keep doing it until there is no money to make.
Bridget Jones's Diary
Bridget Jones's Diary is a romantic comedy movie starring Renée Zellweger and Hugh Laurie. This movie is the definition of a chick flick. Renée Zellweger was cast perfectly in this role, and She fits right in. The movie explores the issue most women modern women face, especially nowadays, i.e., lack of desirable suitors after the age of 30. This movie came age out in the 2000s, at the height of the rom-com era, but it is still more relevant than ever.
In one scene, it is shown that Renée is trying to lose weight religiously to max out on her potential suitors, which numerous feminists criticized, and they are wrong like always. Useless quotes like A man should love should for who you are useless at best and harmful at worst. It is just like saying to a fat, broke male that you should not change yourself and that a woman should love you for who you are. In both cases, the advice is terrible, and the better suggestion would be to be the best version of yourself, and then you will get what you want.
10 Things I Hate About you
10 Things I Hate About You is a rom-com teen drama starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This movie is pure Gold. I genuinely love this movie. Best rom-com, possibly the best overall film I have ever seen. The playground scene is super iconic. What more can I say about it?
The Duff
The Duff is a teen drama movie starring Mae Whitman and Bella Thorne. This is a typical movie where our protagonist starts as a loser and, by the end, achieves everything they also want while overcoming various adversities in the process, etc., etc. This movie is excellent and well-shot, and well-directed. The writing is also on point. They could have made a half-assed teen flick, but they didn't. They put effort into it, and it shows. Bella Thorne is the mean girl here. And she absolutely kills it. Other Actors also did an admirable job.
Love, Simon
Love, Simon is a teen drama movie starring Nick Robinson and Katherine Langford. It is another teen drama with a love story as the central plot. There is also a mystery that is revealed at the end of the movie, which works as a great hook. It was an enjoyable fun movie. The pacing was slow in this movie, and it meshes with the script.
Bride Wars
Bride Wars is a rom-com movie starring Anne Hathway and Kate Hudson. The premise is the strife between Anne and Hudson, who are ex-best friends turned bitter rivals for a wedding place. It sounds ridiculous but still believable. That is why there is no such thing as friendship between females. They will turn on each other as soon as a better thing arrives, even childhood friends. I was not interested in this movie cause I didn't want to see two women fight. I would rather see women do other naughty things to each other than catfight, if you know what you mean. If it starts with a catfight and then evolves to take a severe turn, then sign me up.
Just like Heaven
Just Like Heaven is a romantic mystery movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. It is just plain bad. It is a terrible, terrible movie. The writing in this movie is pretty bad, and so is the cinematography. The lighting is awful. It was later remade in Telugu as Dangerous Khiladi 5 with Tammanah and Ram Pothineni; that is a way better movie than this absolute garbage.
Playing It Cool
Playing it Cool is a rom-com movie starring Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan. It is an okay but terrible. Similar to a fat, skinny man or butterface woman. It is pretty bad, but it is okay at the same time. Michelle Monaghan steals the show here, and she was the best part of this movie, and the worst part was Chris Evans. He is just not cut out of romcoms or acting, for that matter.
Notting Hill
Notting Hill is a rom-com movie starring Hugh Laurie and Julia Roberts. It is pretty bad. The Story was too contrived and ridiculous. It would have only worked if it didn't have taken itself too seriously.
500 Days of Summer
500 Days of Summer is a romantic movie starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. It was quite a slow movie. Things were happening very quietly and gradually. It had a smooth slow pace which works for this movie. This movie explored the delusion of "Nice Guys," raised on the Steady diet of romcoms and Disney. Who also subscribe to the soulmate myth and believes there is "The One" created only for him. But, in reality, there or is no "One." There are some good ones, and there are some bad ones. That's all. The hero projects and overinvests in the relationship, which hurts him big time. He falls in love or, instead, is infatuated with a non-existent idea of a woman.
Just My Luck
Just My Luck is a rom-com movie starring Chris Pine and Lindsay Lohan. The ingredients were correct, but the finished product was underwhelming. The direction was pretty bad, and so was the writing.
The Spectacular Now
The Spectacular Now is a teen drama starring Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley. This is also a quiet, smooth-sailing movie. Everything seems natural. Pacing and Running time are perfectly set. The leads had great chemistry together. Other characters were okay too. The script was competently written and brilliantly performed by the actors.
Before I Fall
Before I Fall is a sci-fi teen drama movie starring Zoey Deutch. It feels like another shallow teen movie, but as we watch further, we realize that this movie explores deeper themes. It is an emotional movie, but it can also piss you off. It will make you feel numerous emotions. It explored the reason why you should be nice to people.
Never Been Kissed
Never Been Kissed is a teen romantic movie starring Drew Barrymore. She works for a magazine or something in this movie. For some reason, she has to go undercover in a high school, and then drama ensues. This movie is about that drama. A budding romance starts between Barrymore's character and a school teacher. After some ups and downs, the movie ends at a baseball game like many other romcoms.
Nobody
Nobody is an action movie starring Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. He is a family man in this movie and has a tedious job, but one day some punks try to rob his house and take a toy of his daughter. And then suddenly, he goes full Rambo mode, and it is revealed that he is an ex-special force or something. Then he takes on the Mafia single-handedly and kills them all. The End.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin
The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a romantic comedy movie starring Steve Carell. The jokes in this movie are uncreative and boring. It is a fairly watchable but forgettable movie.
What's Your Number
What's Your Number is a romcom starring Chris Evans and Anna Farris. This is an awful movie. Casting is horrible. Maybe not Chris Evans is well-cast cause his forte is starring in bad romcoms. But he is not as bad as the actress, though, which is not as easy as it sounds. Anna Farris. Oh my god! How did she break into Hollywood? It's incomprehensible to me. I could say casting couch, but she is not pretty enough to do even that. Even her name in the same sentence with pretty sounds weird.
She's the Man
She's the Man is a teen romantic drama movie starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum. All things that make a good romcom are abundantly present in this movie. This is one of the best romcoms ever made. Amanda Bynes completely steals the show here. Bynes is at the top of her game here. Charming Tatum is also great. They both have great chemistry together. What more can you ask in a film? It is funny and very happening, a prerequisite to any good rom-com. The Premise is superb and exciting. The direction is on point, along with the lighting and cinematography. It is a high school romance movie but is funnier than most comedy movies. Everything about this movie is just great.
Destination Wedding
Destination Wedding is a romantic comedy movie starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Rider. It is supposed to be a romcom which are usually feel-good movies, but this is a cynical and depressing movie. This movie is essentially two jaded and cynical people commiserating about their frustrations about life. This movie has a dark, cynical doom and gloom tone. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth after you have seen it.
