Geek Charming Ranting Review
Geek Charming is a teen romance movie Starring Haley from Modern Family, Sarah Hyland. Your regular nerd falls in love with the popular girl story. In this case, the nerd doesn't like to be called herd but rather a geek. Hyland's character's name is Dylan. She is your typical mean girl who constantly puts down other people to feel good about herself and is both sarcastic and mean, which is no small feat. She is also very shallow and entitled, but surprise surprise, she has a sensitive side that she doesn't want anybody to see, and she has trauma in her past. Hence, she puts on a charade to look happy and well put together, and only our hero can see through the facade and see the real Dylan. The ending was too cliche. Everybody gets a happy ending. Dylan's nemesis, NICOLE, was given no screen time whatsoever, making the movie even worse. We knew nothing about Nicole except for the fact that she and Dylan were enemies. But why should I care if you don't show me who this person is? The film solely focuses on two lead characters, which works against the movie. The dynamic between Dylan and her father could have been explored more. When she agrees to have dinner with her father's girlfriend, it doesn't feel impactful cause the tension between Dylan and her is just mentioned and not shown. And it's violated an important rule of cinema which states, Show not Tell. The dinner scene seemed like a filler. Also, Her criticism about her friends abandoning her seems unmerited since she was the one who treated them with no respect, but she was too self-absorbed to see past her nose. Also, her criticism of Asher was not merited. He saw her with Josh while they were having a moment. He did the right thing by dumping her. But, I guess we will forgive everything since she is the lead and the rest of the people's feeling doesn't matter.
