April to July

A Walk to Remember

This is a very emotional and bittersweet movie. It tells a tragic tale of love between two unlikely people. It doesn't feel forced. Even Side characters have an arch and a chance to redeem themselves. The movie is very well-paced. The story flows seamlessly. In the third act,  a character dies, and that is the peak moment of the film. The acting is superb across the board.

Brittany Runs a Marathon

This is a redemption movie. The lead character starts as a mess but slowly redeems herself and gets her act together. The writing and direction are on point. Overall, this is an optimistic and excellent movie.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This is an unadulterated garbage movie. One of the most unromantic romance movies of all time. I would expect this from Kate Winslet but not from Jim Carrey. I don't know what he was thinking. The movie tries to be intelligent and thoughtful but doesn't have the wherewithal to be intellectual. The Lighting and tone of the film are too depressing.  It felt like you are watching a tragic war horror flick, not a romantic movie. Pacing and continuity are all over the place.

Meet Bill

This movie starts as another romcom but takes a U-turn and becomes about redemption and companionship. The casting and acting are excellent across the board. Jessica Alba completely steals the show. It is a very light-hearted and laid-back movie.

One for the Money

One for the Money is a crime mystery movie starring Katherine Heigl.  This is a pretty unremarkable movie. After watching this movie, you forget what this movie was all about. It is a very forgettable and bland movie.

The Love Punch

This movie is just awful. The only thing was casting; otherwise, this movie is just really bad, from writing to acting to the story. I don't know why they made this movie, if they were not going to put any effort into the movie.

Stuck in Love

This movie tries to give you a decent cinematic experience but fails, but already they try. The casting and writing are okay. The issue with this movie, is that it gives terrible life advice. Lily Collins plays Sam, a writer, and a whore, who says that her whorish behavior inspires her and improves her writing, and I have no idea how.  Her father is a blue-pilled simp, which is really pathetic, to be honest, gets the girl in the end, which was a really bad lesson to give to the audience.

Playing it for Keeps

This movie is about a phenom's fall from grace and his effort to become better and get his act together, especially for his son. Even though it deals with a serious topic, it has a light-hearted tone.  The pacing is slow but workable.  Overall, you can feel that the filmmakers tried but not enough to make this a good movie.

All the Old Knives

This is a spy thriller movie starring Chris Pine and Thandie Newton.  The Lighting in this movie is pretty bad, too dark for a thriller. Writing is pretty basic. The pacing is too slow.  Stuff happens very gradually.  Running time should have been 30 minutes less, or even better, they shouldn't have made this embarrassment in the first place. One of the most boring movies I have ever watched.

Hachi

This is a very tragic movie. It is a very bittersweet and depressing movie.  This movie is based on a real story which makes it even more tragic. This is a very emotionally heavy movie.

Lady Bird

Lady Bird is a high school teen movie. But there is nothing relatable in this movie as a former high schooler myself.  I don't know what they were trying to convey here. The movie is pointless and wastes a lot of your time for no reason. I didn't feel much emotion watching this movie, the characters are uninteresting. The writing was pretty bad. The ending was the worst part of this movie.

Obvious Child

This movie is supposed to be a comedy-drama movie, I think. I didn't laugh at all, and as far as drama is concerned, I also felt no emotion watching this movie besides mild annoyance. Jenny Slate is a comedian, allegedly. But,  if there were a test for comedians, she would fail very hard.  This is a pointless movie. The movie is very flat.

Silver Lining Playbook

Silver Lining Playbook is a romantic drama movie starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, and she won an Oscar for her performance.  She did a good job, but Oscar,  I think that's too far.  Cooper also did a great job.  The acting and casting are excellent. The story is pretty good too.  But I wouldn't recommend this movie to anybody. It is a useless and pointless movie.

Paper Towns

Paper Towns is a teen romance movie.  This movie definitely delivers.  The story is not revolutionary, but it works pretty well.  The story is about a nerdy student who is taken on daring adventures by a free-spirited thrill-seeking girl.  The casting and acting are excellent across the board. The road scene was pretty cool.  The ending was also fabulous.  This movie is brilliant through and through.

Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is a classic movie.  First of all, The acting and casting in this movie are top-notch.  The lead actors were also the writers, so the acting feels pretty authentic cause they have created the characters they are playing. The story is rather unique and original, and the execution is also brilliant.  The characters have depth and are very relatable. You understand where they are coming from.

Kings of Summer

Kings of Summer is a teen coming-of-age story.  The lead characters are fun and goofy. The premise is pretty neat. Three teen boys try to live on their own to turn into men.  The film is about is about the struggles and fruits of the characters trying to be men.

The Rebound

The Rebound is a rom-com movie starring Justin Bartha and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The premise is a young man falls in love with an older single mom. The characters are likable, and the story is good. There are also some funny scenes in this movie. The writing and acting are also pretty good. The ending was also very great.

Shutter Island

Shutter Island is a mystery thriller movie starring Leonardo de caprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley. It starts off with Leo trying to unravel a mystery but in the end  the, movie pulls the carpet from below and reveals that what ever you have not seen till now is not what really happened. It has a  confusing and disorienting end. This is not a movie you put on in the background while you do some other thing. You have to be dialed in and yet you may not understand completely.

Source Code

Source Code is a sci-fi action movie starring Vera Fermiga and Jake Gyllenhall. It is also a thriller movie and a loop movie where a certain set of events keeps happening again and again like Before we fall. This movie uses tension and Suspense to keep you hooked but it is not enough. It is just another run of the mill sci-fi movie.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a supernatural vampire comedy movie. It is very campy and over-the-top which works in the favour of the movie surprisingly. It was originally meant to be dark and serious but the director had other ideas in mind. The Casting is great. The editing is also fine. Action scenes are funny and humorous. Dialogue are so bad that it's good. They were going for a light-hearted kids movie. It seems like a bad idea but it totally works.

The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer is a crime thriller movie. The premise is fantastic. The big plot twist was the best part about the movie. But, unfortunately after the plot reveal it all goes downhill from there and becomes another action crime movie. There was another minor twist at the end but that was pretty much it. The Casting is top-notch. They could not have chosen better actors for their respective roles.  But, Third act squarders this movie which had great potential.

The Batman

First of all, It is 3 hours long. It is very faithful to the comics.  It is the perfect movie for the comic book nerds but for other people, it is disappointing. The Lighting was too dark. Catwoman was a useless character. She provided little substance to the movie other than a placeholder for lead actress. Her character was boring. Some plot twists were surprising. This movie was too long.

Allure

It is a movie about love but not a typical Hollywood love story and also it is definetly not a very romantic movie. It deals with emotional manipulation and gaslighting. It is  well-directed and well-acted.  The writing is also on point and staves off from being preachy. Overall, it is a very nice movie.
