21 Jump Street Review

21 Jump Street is a 2012 buddy cop high school comedy action movie starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Let me tell you this movie is an absolute gem. This is how a typical movie action comedy movie is. This ticks off markers in so many areas which is unbelievable. I saw Lethal Weapon recently and it was pure garbage while this movie is the absolute opposite of that movie. It succeeds in all areas that Lethal Weapon failed miserably.

Review
It starts off by introducing us to our leads. Jenko is the jock and Schmidt is the nerd. After graduating from the same school they run into each other in the police academy. Turns out the jock is not very good at academics while the nerd is not the best athlete. Shocker, Right! So they develop an unlikely friendship. They truly complement each other. One's weakness is others' strength and vice versa. So they are assigned to patrol duty and a bicycle. So obviously they feel disappointed cause they had concocted romantic ideals about
police work with high-speed chases and explosions. They try to become a hero and bust a drug-dealing motorcycle gang but fail to read their Miranda Rights which makes the bust invalid. After this screwup, they are transferred to 21 Jump Street where they are sent to high school as undercover cops to find out who is the supplier of a new drug on which a student recently o.d.'ed. Their job is to bust the supplier before it spreads to other schools. And their boss is Ice Cube who is the most stereotypical black police head who is loud and tough-talking.

Upon arriving at school, They find out the high school has changed drastically, new subgroups have popped up, and everyone is more wierder and serious. They feel shocked and blame it on Glee Of Course. They also switch their forged identities and Channing Tatum starts hanging out with nerds while Jonah Hill rolls with the cool kids. So they get to live the opposite of their previous high school lives. A dream for most kids. The movie doesn't take it takes itself too seriously. It even makes a self-aware joke at the start. There are a lot of sex jokes which are parred for the course for a high school movie. Our leads take the drug at one point and the montage with 4 stages is great. That drug joke lands and lands hard. In the last stage and the last act, they have a funny meltdown. The music in this movie was on point. The movie starts with an Eminem song. This movie knew its audience. And if you know what your audience wants you are going to create a great product. It was a net concept where the jock joins the nerds group and the nerd is now hanging out with the cool kids. The jokes were funny and timed. The pacing of the movie was also well done. But I think the scene where they get fired could have been longer. We immediately are taken out from a sad scene to a serious menacing situation that felt jarring.
At last, we go to prom where there is a plot twist and also we get to see Johnny Depp. What more do you want from a movie. 21 Jump Street was shown back in the 80s which catapulted Depp into fame and with the status of a teenage heartthrob.

The casting is on point in this movie. Tatum and Hill have real chemistry. Even that would have been enough but on top of that side characters and cameos were brilliant and that is why this movie is so good. The cinematography is well done. It gave off breezy and upbeat vibes which were intended. Dialogues and Screenplay is also exceptionally done. All the major components of filmmaking were excellently done.

The background music and cool entry scenes were the best. Chase scenes and gun fights were also done exquisitely.

Overall, this was a phenomenal movie. From Writing to Casting, It was great. It was a fun enjoyable movie. Highly watchable. And also the party scene was the greatest, especially this scene.
