Happiest Season Review
Happiest Season is a 2020 Christmas movie starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Allison Brie and Aubrey Plaza, written and directed by Clea DuVall.
Story
Harper asks Abby to come with her to her parents house on Christmas. On the way to their house, we find out that She hasn't came out to her parents yet as She claimed before. Harper's parents are overbearing and expect a great deal from their children and reputation is very dear to them, that is why she hadnt came out yet due to the fear of their reaction.
At Harper's home we meet her older sister who is very childish and wierd. They all go to dinner together where the parents tell embarrasing childhood stories about Harper. They seem to have accepted Abby. Then, there is some sneaking around and a closet scene. Next Up, Harper's eldest sister Sloan (Played by Allison Brie) arrives and we immediately find out that she has a sibling rivalry with Harper. She is also passive aggressive and passes snide comments about Harper which are duly returned. We find out she was quite a academic phenom but now she makes giftbaskets which has caused her fall out of favour. Our lead characters buckle under pressure and Abby breaks up with Harper and leaves while Harper's parents tell from the shocking discovery that Harper is gay. Actually, Sloan walked in on them having an intimate moment and she tries to tell her parents but Harper tries to stop her but she fails and they both end up making a scene right in the middle of a Christmas Party. We also find out that Sloan is divorcing her husband. Harper goes after Abby and wins her back and get married. Her parents accept her and Jane becomes a best selling author. And everyone lives ever after.
Ending
Ending could be said to be clichè. But, I don't entirely agree. Come on, it's a Christmas movie.
Everyone knew what they were getting themselves into.
Acting & Casting
Acting is decent across the board. The chemistry between the lead actors is good. Which helps this movie a great deal. Casting is well done.
Music
Music was decent enough. Not to great or anything. Song at the ending was the only good song. They definetly could have done better in this department.
Cinematography
Cinematography is the best part of this movie. They were definetly making a Christmas movie.
Lighting is Great. The Color Palate and wardrobe is exceptionally done. The Sets and costume design felt right. This movie really felt that I was watching a Christmas Movie. Everything was so Christmas-y. It was not in your face or subtle. It was in the right amount.
Pacing and Editing
Pacing was exquisite. I didn't feel bored for one second. Emotional scenes were given enough time. They were not stretched out or rushed through. Length of the movie was right. Editing was well done. Scene changes felt natural.
Conclusion
Overall, it's a good Christmas Movie.
