Reacher Rambling

Reacher is an Amazon Original Series based on Lee Child's bestselling novel "Killing Floor". Novel was released back in '97. Reacher is a crime thriller with action thrown into the mix. Before this series, couple of movies has been made on Lee's novel. In which Tom Cruise played Jack Reacher. Which were not groundbreaking but fine. Watchable movies but not top notch.

So the series is based on the story of Jack Reacher, a veteran. Reacher comes to a town named Margrave around the time a murder takes place. Most of the story happens in Margrave however characters sometimes travel outside. Margrave is a small town which naturally lays suspicion on the newcomer, Reacher. So he gets arrested. Then he is sent to jail where inmates try to murder him. But, he gets through by sticking his finger in the eye of an inmate. Fight scene was well choreographed. Finally, he gets out of jail only to find out that the victim of the murder, he got arrested for, is his estranged brother Joe. So Naturally, He decides to stay in Margrave and find out the people responsible and do what he does best, kill them.

Alan Ritchson is perfectly cast here. He has clearly sculpted the physique that is wanted here. He is extremely jacked with six pack abs. He definitely can act. His acting was highlight of this series. His character demands him to be stoic and calculating. He barely shows any emotions. He always keeps his emotions in check. He also avoids conflicts despite having the ability to deal with it, which is a smart move. He knows the rules and has connections to bring down money mafia, which is the villian in this situation. He can kill anyone easily, which he does often and throughout this series with different means. He can shoot and kill by bare hands. He also kills by repeatedly stabbing his victim. He is a no nonsense and discreet guy, which is tough considering his stature and build but at least he tries to. His scenes where he murders people are highlights of the show. Last scene is also a big fat fight scene with fire and bullets. He is the the most stoic character I have ever came across. His brother said to him no matter what happens, do not cry and he doesn't except at the end when he meets his dying mother. Even there he cries on his brother's orders, and his crying was also very restrained, where tears flow down his cheek and his face looks a little emotional.

This is Roscoe Conklin. Besides having the least plausible name in the world, She also tries to act badass from the first scene despite having a build of a 12 year old girl. She especially tries to pull it off in front of Reacher, which makes me think that She could definitely use some self-awareness. She is impulsive and impetuous. Which jeopardized the mission but she apologies after that which salvages the situation. But, Seriously I don't know why she thinks that She can take on guys twice or thrice her size. I also don't understand why is she heroine in this series. She is impulsive and somewhat delusional maybe. She "threatens" people regularly but when one bad guy writes whore on her car, she does nothing and goes on wash her car, What! This was very inconsistent with her character. Also, Hers and Reacher lovestory seems super fake and forced. They thought, we got to have a love story here folks so let's just shoehorn a contrived lovestory. They didn't even get a half-decent scene to develop feeling. Every romantic scene was rushed through. It would have a lot better if they had never added this part in the first place.

Other Characters are fine too. But, it is mainly focussed on Reacher. Also, there are not many characters which keeps us from overwhelming our mind with million different characters. It's easy to keep track of the characters. Murders done by the bad guys seems familiar to the series, Hannibal. There is a sick sense of humor thrown in the mix to lighten the mood a little bit. It ends on a typical note, with Reacher coming to terms with his brother's death and Roscoe decides to "rebuild" the town, whatever that means. Finally, Reacher moves on to his next destination as one does.
