Karwaan Rambling
Let me start off by saying this is a genuinely good movie. Movies like these are the reason why I like movies so much. It was fun not bored me which seems to be norm for me these days. It was a light-hearted fun movie. Definitely worth recommending to others and maybe even re-watch with loved ones. I don't like re-watching movies so it is saying something. These sort of movies also highlight the beauty of life which we tend to forget amid our chaotic lives. It helps us become more optimistic towards life. It appeals to our gentle gracious instincts which are rarely touched in our lives. These sort of movies also emphasise the need for art and cinema which we often forget after watching one commercial cookie-cutter "content" posing as cinema after another.
PLOT
Movie kicks off very typically with a disaffected corporate worker stuck in a unsatisfying job, who is in around his mid 30s and is single. He works in the IT industry cause ofcourse he does. Also, He lives in Banglore cause Ofcourse he does. He also has a terrible boss. Who yells, scolds and talks down with people. He is a jerk to everyone, very set in his ways. Our Protagonist whose name is Avinash is stuck in a rut untill a bad news strikes him. He gets the news of his father's death in a bus accident who was going to Gangotri. He doesn't seem to be very shaken by the incident cause he and his father had an strained relationship throughout their lives but in last few years they didn't even talked to each other, this is later revealed however. He is informed by the bus service that he has to pickup his father's body from Banglore airport. So he ropes in help of his friend Shaukat, played by Irrfan Khan. But after picking up the body they go to burn or rather electrify the body, they find out that the body has been exchanged and they have got body of some elderly women. After further inquiry, they find out that the body had been exchanged with a single mother based in kochi. So they leave to meet the poor women but then they find out that the single mother's daughter has gone A-Wall. So Naturally, our hero offers to help by going to her college which is in the way to kochi if they take a detour and they take the detour Ofcourse. There they meet your typical "rebellious" teenager who is sneaking off from the boys hostel after a night of wild partying. Also, she was drunk when her mother informed her about her grandmother's departure so she doesn't remember this. So our band of misfits decides to head for kochi but their plans falls through when they find a box of stuff from someone who was also on the bus which met it's terrible fate while it's way to Gangotri. So Naturally our hero takes another detour to deliver this package but they find out that they are in a marriage ceremony somewhere else. Avinash gives the man at the house money for buying his son shoes. Avinash turns out to be a kind-hearted soul who helps strangers in need despite having resentment in his heart after his plan to follow his dreams get thwarted by his dear dad.
Then go to the wedding which has been called off due to death of a family member. At the wedding, the mini van gets taken by Shaukat's debtors and Shaukat gets injured in the struggle to take back his vehicle. After that they admit him to hospital and Avinash reunites with an old love and fininally they arrive at kochi. Where there is a heartwarming scene at the mourning ceremony when Avinash and Tahira speak about their deceased parents. Then Avinash quits a job in a typical fashion and goes onto to follow his passion of photography. He organises a exibition where he invites all his friends including Shaukat and Tahira and her daughter. And then the credits roll.
If I have to say only few words then it would be smooth, simple and sweet. Direction is brilliant. Songs are beautiful, very intune with the scenes. Everything seems to work out brilliantly in this movie. If I have to say only one word about this movie then it will be heartwarming.
